Hi everyone! Susie Duncan here, owner of Two Ladies & A Bucket in St. Louis.
A lot of folks ask me to explain the difference between a standard cleaning and a deep cleaning, and I always tell them the same thing. A deep cleaning is what happens when we go after the buildup that time and daily life leave behind in the spots a regular visit doesn’t reach. If you’ve never had one done, or if it’s been a while since your last one, this is exactly what you’re paying for and why it matters more here in St. Louis than it might somewhere else.
A deep cleaning starts with everything included in a standard visit, then goes several layers further. In the kitchen, we clean inside the oven, inside the microwave, and inside the refrigerator, pulling out shelves and drawers to get underneath everything that’s collected over the months. We detail cabinet fronts and handles, scrub the backsplash, and clean behind and around appliances where crumbs and grease tend to hide. Baseboards throughout the home get a full scrub instead of the quick wipe they get during a standard visit, and we pay close attention to corners, vents, and light fixtures that collect dust nobody notices until it’s built up for a while.
Bathrooms get the same treatment. We scrub grout lines, detail around fixtures, clean inside cabinets, and address the buildup that our humidity here in St. Louis practically guarantees. I mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. Our summers are humid enough that soap scum and mildew get a head start most homes in drier climates never deal with. A deep clean is where we really dig into that, getting into the grout and seams that a quick wipe during a standard visit simply can’t reach.
We also handle window sills, window tracks, and interior glass, along with ceiling fan blades and the tops of door frames, which is where a surprising amount of dust and pollen settles, especially if you’re in a leafier area like Kirkwood, Ladue, or Webster Groves. Older homes in that part of town tend to have more trim, more window casings, and more nooks in general, so a deep clean in those neighborhoods often takes a bit more time than a newer build out in Oakville or Wildwood.
Here’s something worth knowing if your home has hardwood floors, especially original hardwood in an older home. We adjust our approach during a deep clean to protect the finish, using methods that lift buildup without damaging the wood, which is a real concern in a lot of the older housing stock around University City and Maplewood.
I recommend a deep cleaning at least twice a year for most homes, and more often if you have pets, young kids, or you’re getting ready to host family for the holidays. Think of it as resetting the baseline. Once that reset happens, our regular visits are able to maintain that level far more easily, instead of slowly losing ground to buildup that never gets fully addressed.
The real value here isn’t just a cleaner home for a week. It’s giving yourself a true reset point, so the next several months of regular cleanings keep up with your life instead of just managing the mess.
Until next time, this is Susie Duncan, reminding you that at Two Ladies & A Bucket, we’re creating free time for busy people. So, call 314-229-1736.
